Visiting the Etruscan Walls by walking along their path is a must-do experience. Given the exceptional hilltop location, you\u2019ll have the opportunity to have a panoramic view of the entire city of Fiesole<\/strong> and a 360-degree view of the Arno plain to the south and the Mugnone valley to the north, extending your gaze to the Apennine passes.<\/p>\n

The construction of the walls, evidence of this area’s Etruscan past<\/strong>, is probably associated with the 4th century BC, partly because of the expansion that involved Fiesole and the centers of Etruria during this period. Described as ‘cyclopean,’ the walls were built with large, squared boulders of pietra serena, laid in dry stone and using a pseudoisodomic technique. Little is known about the gates that opened in the walls. As of today, walking along the route, remnants of wall fragments are visible on the north side in Via delle Mura Etrusche and on the east side in Via Mari.
There are many restorations of the Etruscan walls of Fiesole, which enabled the city to defend itself from numerous attacks over the centuries. The walls were, in fact, finally demolished never to be rebuilt again until 1125.<\/p>\n
