The commemorative monument<\/strong>, located halfway up the steep ascent leading to the Convent of San Francesco, was erected in 1964 in memory of the three military officers Alberto La Rocca, Vittorio Marandola, and Fulvio Sbarretti, who were massacred by the Nazis on August 12, 1944, for supporting the partisans fighting against the enemy forces.<\/p>\n The bronze sculpture, designed by Marcello Guasti, seemingly generated from abstract forms, depicts the stylized likeness of a flame resisting the force of a pincer. A successful example of informal art that holds a symbolic meaning of the struggle between good and evil<\/strong>.
