Villa San Michele
Via Doccia, 4 Fiesole
Carved on top of the hills of Fiesole, Villa San Michele is an admirable work of art, both inside and outside. A paradise of culture, to be explored and experienced with passion.
This is one of the historic buildings of Fiesole, which began as the convent of San Michele a Doccia in 1413.
Significant transformations took place from 1808, with the Napoleonic suppression of the convent, when the building became a private villa owned by the Cuccoli Fiaschi family, who created the front garden. In 1900 it was purchased by wealthy American Henry White Cannon. Later, in 1952, due to damage caused by World War II, the mansion was converted into a hotel by Frenchman Monsieur Teissier. The latter, in 1983, commissioned Pietro Porcinai to work on the garden areas: the first in front of the facade to welcome visitors at the end of the cypress road, the second, beyond the loggia overlooking Florence, on the terraces of the monks’ vegetable gardens, then the environmental restoration of the forest and especially the design of a swimming pool to accompany the prestigious site.
