Church of Santa Maria Primerana

Piazza Mino da Fiesole, 27 Fiesole

The Church of Santa Maria Primerana presents one of the oldest places of worship in the Fiesole area, as evidenced by the earliest records dating back to the 10th Century. Built on a site where an ancient temple once stood, it underwent medieval extension works that led to the construction of the Gothic presbytery.

The interior, enriched with frescoes by Niccolò di Pietro Gerini, houses several valuable works of art, including a 13th-century panel by the Maestro di Rovezzano, two bas-reliefs by Francesco da Sangallo, a 14th-century crucifix attributed to Bonaccorso di Cino, and a terracotta altarpiece from the workshop of Andrea della Robbia.
