Church of Santa Maria Primerana

The Church of Santa Maria Primerana presents one of the oldest places of worship in the Fiesole area, as evidenced by the earliest records dating back to the 10th Century. Built on a site where an ancient temple once stood, it underwent medieval extension works that led to the construction of the Gothic presbytery.

The church has a single-nave floor plan, concluded by a transept and a barrel-vaulted roof. The interior, enriched by walls frescoed by Niccolò di Pietro Gerini, holds some valuable works of art, such as a 13th-century tablet by the Maestro di Rovezzano, two bas-reliefs by Francesco da Sangallo, a 14th-century crucifix on panel attributed to Bonaccorso di Cino, and a terracotta altarpiece from the workshop of Andrea della Robbia.
