Florence War cemetery
Florence War cemetery
Florence War Cemetery, located between the banks of the Arno River and Via Aretina, is a place of peace and remembrance in memory of the 1,637 servicemen who died during the liberation campaign of Italy between September 8, 1943, and April 25, 1945.
Designed by architect Louis de Soissons, the cemetery was built on an area transferred to perpetual use by the Italian State.
The evocative location in the green expanse and the particular location adjacent to the river give this place an additional feature that springs from the balance between the natural environment and the built landscape.
