The commemorative monument, located halfway up the steep ascent leading to the Convent of San Francesco, was erected in 1964 in memory of the three military officers Alberto La Rocca, Vittorio Marandola, and Fulvio Sbarretti, who were massacred by the Nazis on August 12, 1944, for supporting the partisans fighting against the enemy forces.

The beauty of the monument, work by the artist Marcello Guasti, was enhanced by the hand of the architect Giovanni Michelucci, who created a panoramic terrace overlooking Florence. Walking through the site, one might feel more than just in a commemorative space but in a place of memory capable of evoking life, a place that reconciles the dialogue between art and landscape.
